The Center for DNA-Guided Medicine has partnered with Carmen Arace Middle School in Bloomfield, CT, to conduct on-site after-school educational classes for 7th and 8th-grade students throughout the 2023-2024 academic year. This collaboration aims to introduce students
to the fascinating world of laboratory medicine, genetics, and biomedical research, helping them explore future career paths in STEM fields.
Through hands-on activities and interactive discussions, students are gaining an in-depth understanding of how genetics influences medical treatments and patient care. The program covers key topics such as DNA structure, analyses, personalized medicine, and laboratory techniques used in clinical and research settings. By engaging directly with professionals in the field, students are developing a greater appreciation for the role of biomedical sciences in healthcare.
Dr. Trevor Ellis, Principal of Carmen Arace Middle School, emphasized the importance of this
initiative:
"This practice will be useful in tailoring activities to the interests and needs of this year’s students while also building a comprehensive program for the future."
